THE SPECIALIST CLINIC DUBLIN

What to expect at your Plastic Surgery Consultation

Taking the first step toward plastic surgery can feel like a significant decision, and at The Specialist Clinic we want you to feel informed, comfortable, and completely at ease from the moment you walk through our doors. Your initial consultation is a private, unhurried appointment with one of our specialist plastic surgeons — an opportunity to discuss your concerns openly, ask questions, and explore your options without any pressure or obligation.

What Happens During Your Initial Consultation

Your surgeon will begin by taking a detailed medical history, including any previous surgeries, current medications, and relevant lifestyle factors, before conducting a careful clinical assessment of the area or areas you wish to address. You will have the opportunity to discuss your goals and expectations in depth, and your surgeon will walk you through the procedure options most appropriate for you, including the techniques involved, realistic outcomes, recovery, and any associated risks. At The Specialist Clinic, we believe that well-informed patients make the best decisions, so no question is too small, and there is never any rush.

Photographs may be taken at this stage for your clinical record and to assist with surgical planning. If you are considering a procedure that benefits from imaging or measurements, your surgeon will explain this as part of the consultation process.

Before you leave, our patient care team will be on hand to discuss next steps, answer any practical questions about scheduling or aftercare, and provide you with written information to take home and review in your own time.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

To make the most of your consultation, we recommend bringing the following:

  • A list of your current medications & supplements

  • A list of any known allergies

  • Details of any relevant previous surgeries or medical conditions.

  • A vaild referral from your GP or another specialist

  • Any associated diagnostics or imaging (XRay, CT, MRI)

  • If you wear glasses or contact lenses, bring these with you, as your surgeon may wish to assess facial proportions or symmetry as part of the consultation.

  • It can also be helpful to bring photographs - whether images that illustrate the outcome you are hoping to achieve, or photos of yourself from an earlier time that you feel reflect your goals

  • Ifyou have any written questions prepared in advance, bring these along so you don't forget anything you wanted to ask

  • Finally, you are always welcome to bring a support person with you, to attend your appointment.

A Note on Next Steps

There is no expectation to proceed with surgery following your initial consultation. Many patients choose to take time to reflect, seek a second opinion, or return for a follow-up appointment before making any decisions — and we fully support that process. Our team is here to guide you at every stage, and we are always happy to answer any questions that arise after your appointment.
